1. Attempt any 5 from the subsequent :- (15)
(a) What do you mean by hardness of water? Distinguish ranging from alkaline and non-alkaline
hardness of water.
(b) What is co-polymerization? discuss with the help of suitable example.
(c) discuss the structure, properties and uses of fullerence. .
(d) elaborate blended oils? How are they superior to vegetable and mineral oils?
(e) Name the various renewable and non-renewable sources of energy. Distinguish ranging from
conventional and non-conventional energy.
(f) discuss the term "glass transition temperature". What is its significance?
(g) provide the demerits of phase rule.

2. (a) Write the synthesis, properties and uses of any 2 of the subsequent :- (6)
(i) Polythene' .
(ii) Buna-S
(iii) Buna-N
(b) What is fuel cell? discuss the principle and working of hydrogen-oxygen fuel cell. (5)
(C) 800 liters of raw water was soften by zeolite softener. After it got exhausted needed 40 (4)
liters of NaCI solution containing 110 gm per liter of NaCI for its regeneration. compute
the hardness of water.

3. (a) State and discuss phase rule. explain the application of phase rule to 1 component water (7)
(b) discuss any 2 of the subsequent terms :- (4)
(i) Crystallinity of polymer
(ii) Tacticity
(iii) Viscoelasticity.
(c) three gm of liquid lubricant was saponified with potassium hydroxide solution. After saponification (4)
the mixture was titrated against 0.5 N HCL solution. The burette studying was obtained to be
12 ml. If blank titration burette studying was 36 ml, compute the saponification number of
the lubricant.

(b) compute lime (90%) pure and soda (95%) pure needed for softening of 20000 liters of (5)
water containing subsequent impurities :-

(iii) NaAI02 = 4.1 mg per litre
(iv) HCI = 3.65 mg per litre
(v) Ca(N03)2 = 82 mg per litre
