Semester End Internal Practical examination

PRINCIPLES OF GENETICS AND POPULATION GENETICS

(AGB-121: 2+1=3)Marks: 20.00

Q. 1. Write chromosome numbers obtained in somatic cells of Sheep, Goat, Mule, Pea plant
and Cat. (1.5)

Q. 2. A brown eyed man whose mother was blue eyed marries a brown eyed woman
whose dad was blue eyed. Write the probabilities of followings:

a) First child is female and blue eyed.

b) First 2 children are male and brown eyed. (2.0)

Q. 3. In minks, the gene (p) and (i) when homozygous produce platinum coat colour.
Atleast 1 dominant gene of these gene pairs is necessary to produce the
common brown colour. Write genotypes and phenotypes of offsprings from a
cross ranging from 2 brown minks heterozygous for both the gene pairs. (2.0)

Q. 4. Under assumption of complete dominance for all gene pairs, ans the ques.
for Aa bb CC Dd Ee Ff x Aa BB cc Dd Ee FF cross.
a) No. of various kinds of gametes produced by every parent.

b) Proportion of progenies expressing all dominant traits.

c) Proportion of progenies heterozygous at both alleles? (3.0)

Q. 5. A cross of AB x ab gave subsequent phenotypic segregation in F2 generation.
AB ab
AB: 950 Ab: 245 aB: 258 ab: 147
Test, whether 2 gene pairs in above example are assorting independently or not?
If, not, obtain out the reason for the identical. (4.0)

Q. 6. Suppose a dad and mother claim that they have been provided the wrong baby at
the hospital. Both parents are of group A, the baby they have been provided is of
group O. From the above information, can we decide the parentage of child? If not
what is your suggestion? (2.0)

Q. 7. Practical Record (1.5)

Q. 8. Viva voce (4.0)
