6.       Read the following passage and answer the questions :    

                        Cardiovascular diseases remains the principle cause of death in western countries.  Great advances have been made, however, in diagnosis and treatment.  Diagnosis was improved by the technique of cardiac catheterization, which enables measurement of pressure to be taken in various chambers of the heart and in major blood vessels, and by angiography, an x-ray procedure for viewing these areas.  Newer imaging devices allow estimation of the extent of heart damage in people who have had a heart attack and of the pumping strength of the heart.  Of the many new drugs available, one important class consists of chemicals that block certain functions of the sympathetic nervous system.  These drugs are used for angina pectoris, disturbance of heart rhythm, and hypertension advances in surgery now permits the bypassing of narrowed arterial and vein segments with grafts, the replacement of valves damaged by infection, and the correction of many congenital malformations of the heart.  Heart transplants have been practiced for several years; temporary artificial hearts are sometime used, and permanent artificial heart had been implanted in several patients by the mid 1980s.  Advances in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases include an awareness and increased understanding of such potential risks as smoking, stress, obesity, high blood pressure, and elevated blood cholesterol.  Since the mid 1920s, the western world has experienced a continuing and dramatic decline in death from coronary heart disease.  This decline has been attributed to changes in diet, medical control of high blood pressure, reductions in smoking, and increased exercise.
