                                                                   B.Com - SECOND Semester

                                        (Computer Fundamentals)

Time Allowed: 3 Hours                                        Maximum Marks: 50

Note: Section A will consist of 12 short answer questions. Students will attempt any ten questions from this section. Each question in Section A carries one mark Section B and C will consist of four questions each. Students are required to attempt any two questions from each section. Each question in section B and C carries ten marks:

                                               SECTION - A

1. (a) State whether process of making salt from sea water, a manufacturing process under the Factories Act, 1948.

(b) Explain 'Certificate of fitness' granted under Factories Act.

(c) Define 'Lay-off' under Industrial Disputes Act,1947.

(d) Explainthe composition of the Board of Conciliation under the Industrial Disputes Act,1947.

(e) Can a minor be member of the 'Trade Union'?

(f) What is the provision for the change of name of the Trade Union?

(g) A woman insured under the Employees State Insurance Act is entitled to receive for the same period both sickness and maternity benefits. Can she combine and claim both the benefits?

(h) What is the rate of employer's contribution and employee's contribution to the ESI Fund?

(i) When is a person disqualified for being chosen as or for being a member of ESI corporation?

(j) Define 'Total Disablement' under the Workmen's Compensation Act, 1923?

(k) What are the modes of serving a notice of accident under the Workmen's Compensation Act, 1923?

(l) Can the employer escape the liability under the Workmen's Compensation Act, 1923 by 'contracting out'?

 

                                               SECTION - B

2. State and explain the provisions related to safety of workers under the Factories Act,1948. 

3. Explain the terms 'Strike' and 'Lock-out'. state the circumstances in which strikes and lock-outs are prohibited and declared illegal. 

4. Define the term 'Trade Union' and discuss the provisions regarding registration of the trade unions under the Trade Unions Act, 1926.

5. (a) What is an 'Industrial Dispute' according to Industrial Dispute Act, 1947? Is the definition applicable to a dispute between a single workman and his employer?

                                               SECTION - C

6. What are the various benefits to which an employee is entitled under the Employees State Insurance Act, 1948?

7. Discuss the constitution, powers and duties of the Standing Committee and Medical Benefit council.

8. What are the circumstances in which an employer is liable to pay compensation under the Workmen's Compensation Act, 1923? Also explain the circumstances under which the employer is not liable.

9. (a) Under what conditions can a workman claim compensation from the principal employer in respect of injuries sustained by him while working under a contractor of the principal?

(b) State the rule regarding the power of commissioner to require from employers a statement regarding fatal accidents.
