Q. 1. (a) Answer the following questions in about 20 words each (Any Five) : [10]
(i) How do you define lyric?
(ii) What are the two types of sonnet?
(iii) Define ode.
(iv) What is an elegy?
(v) Write any two characteristic features of short story.
(vi) What are the themes of a ballad?
(vii) Mention any two types of essay with examples of each.
(b) Identify and explain briefly the literary devices used in the [10]
following lines (Any Five) :
(i) My love is like a red red rose.
(ii) The waves beside them danced.
(iii) Love’s not time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks.

(iv) Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness close bosom friend
of the maturing sun.
(v) They clicked their tongues.
(vi) THAT’S DARK, ISN’T IT?
(vii) Over the distance brightly, brightly?
(c) Refer briefly to the context and explain fully any two of the [10]
following :
(i) The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,

government? Why does the enemy want it?
(ii) Comment on the theme of ‘The Dear Departed’.
(iii) Write a note on the character sketch of Mr. White in ‘The
Monkey’s Paw’.
