PART – A (40 x 1 = 40)
1. (a) Design a combined footing for two columns, each 600 mm x 600mm, 5 metres apart, and each carrying a load of 1800 kN. The available width is restricted to 2.4 metres. The safe bearing capacity of soil may be taken as 200 kN/m2. Use M20 concrete and Fe415 steel.
(b) Draw to a suitable scale the sectional elevation with reinforcement and plan showing the top reinforcement and bottom reinforcement for the above problem.
(or)
- °. Maximum pressure on ground is limited to 120 kN/m2.
(b) Draw sketches to a suitable scale, showing the reinforcement details in the cross-section and in longitudinal section for the above problem.
STEEL
PART – B (40 x 1 = 40)
3. (a) Design a suitable base and anchor bolts for a column subjected to an axial load of 500 kN and a wind moment of 175 kNm. The column section is ISHB 450 @907.4 N/m. Design also the connection between the column and the base. The safe bearing pressure of concrete may be assumed to be 4000 kN/m2.
(b) Draw a sketch to a suitable scale showing the plan view, side view and front view of the column base with proper dimensions for the above problem.
(or)
4. (a) Design a simply supported gantry girder to be used in an industrial building for the following data: Crane capacity = 100 kN; Weight of crab = 35kN; Weight of crane (excluding crab) = 160 kN; Minimum clearance between crane hook and gantry girder = 1m; Wheel base = 3m; Distance between c/c of gantries = 20m; Distance between c/c of gantry columns = 6m; Crane type = E.O.T.
(b) Draw to a suitable scale the sectional view and top view of the gantry girder and crane arrangements for the above problem.
