1. (a) Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow : (5 × 1 = 5)
In the solitude of prison I shall think of you a great deal. I shall sit here wrapped up in my thoughts and you will be a constant companion bringing joy and solace to me. So I shall not be really lonely, and the years on months that I pass here will perhaps bring peace to my mind. I shall make friends with the stars and watch the moon wax and wave, and see the pageant of the world, with all its beauty and horror, as an onlooker from a distant place or a different world.
(i) Name the title and author of this passage.
(ii) Who is the ‘You’ in these lines?
(iii) Where is this person when he wrote these lines?

(b) Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow by choosing the right answer : (5 × 1 = 5)
It would be proper to say that without discipline nothing can be achieved. Just imagine what will happen to the world if the sun suddenly ceases to rise. Definitely the earth will be covered with never-ending darkness and mortifying cold. Similarly, men living in discipline remain happy, contended and prosperous while the indisciplined ones feel melancholy. Man learns the first lesson of discipline in his family and the second one in his school. Punctuality, regularity, honesty are some aspects of discipline that come through practice. Practice in turn moulds our attitudes. Paying taxes is discipline and
so is standing in queues. Thus, discipline is a way of life which is most important for life,

(d) Why does Wordsworth want the Tables Turned?

(a) Mulk Raj Anand’s The Gold Watch is a very touching story of the times, Comment.
(b) What is the story of ‘Lemon, Yellow and Fig’?
(c) How does Akesnov suffer in ‘God sees the truth but waits’? Does he get justice?
