Paper V — TWENTIETH CENTURY PROSE AND FICTION
Time : Three hours Maximum : 100 marks
Question in Unit I is compulsory.
Answer any TWO questions from Unit II and
TWO questions from Unit III
All questions carry equal marks.
UNIT I
1. Annotate any FOUR of the following :
(a) The type is not uncommon, although
Mr. Symons is far superior to most of the type.
(b) From the point of view of literature, the drama is only one among several poetic
forms.
(c) The Agamennon or Macbeth is equally a statement, but of events.
(d) So far from being Shakespeare’s masterpiece, the play is most certainly an arstic
failure.
(e) Instinct rather than reason came to my help, he was a Beadle ; I was a woman.

A portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.
10. Write an essay on Mugham’s Portrayed of the human relationships in The Moon and Six
pence.
11. Justify the title of the novel The Sand Castle.
12. Discuss the plot and structure of The Masters.
13. Evaluate Lord of the Flies as a modern table.
14. Do you consider the Whisky Priest in The Power and the Glory a Martyr or a Tragic hero?
