Three steps of strategic managements:
1. Analyze the opportunities and threats or constraints that external environments.
2. Implement the strategies.
3. Evaluate and control activities to ensure that the organization objectives are achieved.
Strategy formulation at 3 levels:
1. Corporate level
2. Business unit level
3. Functional level
Strategy evaluation: process outcomes in decisions that can have significant and long lasting consequences, basic activities involved in strategy valuation are; Establishing performance in relation to the targets, standards and limits of the objectives and implementation plans; measuring the performance in relation to the targets at a provided time; Analyze the deviations from acceptable tolerance limits; Execute changes where necessary and are feasible.
Importance of strategic management:
1. Follows identifications,
2. Provides an objective view of management problems,
3. Represents a frame work for improved co-ordination and control of activities,
4. Minimizes the effects of adverse conditions and chances.
HR functions can contribute to strategic plans and actions of the firm in the subsequent ways:
1. Encouragement of pro active rather than reactive behavior,
2. Explicit communication of goals,
3. Stimulation of critical thinking,
4. Productivity as an HR based strategy,
5. Quality and service are HR based strategies,
6. Proficient strategic management.
