CS10 (S): Software Engineering

Time: three hours
Maximum Marks: 75

Note : ques. No. one is compulsory. ans any 3 ques. from the rest.
1. (a) An independent trucking company wants to track and record its drivers driving habits. For this purpose, the company has rented a phone number and has printed the number on the front, back and sides ol all trucks owned by the company. Next to the number, the subsequent message is written : "Please report any issue with truck or driver by calling this number". The trucking company wants you to develop a sysiem that
Collects info from callers about driver performance and behaviour as well as truck conditions.
Generates daily and monthly reports about every driver.
Reports issue that requires immediate action, to an on duty manager.

(i) Develop a SRS (System Requirement Specs).
{ii) Design DFDs up to second level.
(iii) Identify the S/W modules and their functions.
(iv) Suggest a testing strategy for any 1 of the S/W modules proposed above. (20)

(b) Develop a procedural design for implementing Binary Search. (10)

2. (a) what are the rules for designing the user interface. (3)

(b) What is cyclomatic complexity ? How can we relate this to independent paths ? discuss with suitable examples. (8)

(c) List at lowest four circumstances under which you recommend that prototyping should be useo as a means of validating system requirements. (4)

3. (a) Who should perform the validation test :
S/W developer or S/W user ? Justify your ans. (4)

(b) What is estimation ? discuss it's role in S/W planning. discuss any 1 cost estimation model with its merits and demerits. (8)

(c) discuss the purpose of Data Flow Dagram in S/W development process. (3)

4. (a) elaborate various kinds of coupling ? provide 1 example for every kind. (5)

(b) Draw an E-R diagram for Hospital Management system. Also mention different entities and their attributes. (6)

(c) State actual or false with cause : (4)
(i) S/W is developed or engineered, it is not manufactured in the classical sense.
(ii) S/W does not wear out.
