State major existing teacher education programmes in India. Discuss as to what extent these programmes have succeeded in realising the aims of teacher education.

Discuss three types of isolations in the system of teacher education identified by the Education Commission (1964-66). How can these isolations be removed ?

Discuss various strategies for professional development of teachers and teacher education.

Research in Teacher education has been one of the most neglected areas. What are the possible reasons according to you for this poor state of affair ? Discuss.

(a)    Discuss role and functions of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

(b)    Analyse the differences between training and education.

(c)    Describe main features of NCTE curriculum 1978, 1988 and 1998 for elementary stage of teacher education.

(d)    How far do you think teacher education is benefited with the use of information and communication technologies ? Give examples.

(e)    Trace the history of distance teacher education at the secondary level in India.

(f)    Define the concept of quality teacher education.

Discuss the two mass teacher training programmes : PMOST and SOPT from your own perspective and suggest measures which could have strengthened these programmes.
