1 Attempt any four parts of the following : 5x4=20

(a)    Discuss the primary characteristics of open systems. In what way is a system entropic?

(b)    Why is a database important in MIS? Explain.

(c)    Differentiate between formal system and informal system.

(d)    Describe why information is most usefully thought of as an organizational resource rather than as an organizational byproduct.

(e)    What is a system? Discuss the elements of a system in brief.

(1) Distinguish between schematic and static system model, physical and abstract system.

(a)    What is the system development life cycle?

How does it relate to system analysis?

(b)    Why is a system proposal to crucial for system design? Explain the feasibility report.

(c)    A number of activities are carried out under implementation. Elaborate.

(d)    Explain briefly the levels of structuring work units in system development.

(e)    How would an analysis determine the user's needs for a system? Explain. Also give distribution of efforts in various phases.

(f)    Distinguish between initial investigation and feasibility study. In what way are they related?

Attempt any two parts of the following : 10x2=20

(a)    The political factor has been brought up in the literature on several occasions. In what respect should the analyst be a politician? What would be an example where political considerations are used in systems work?

(b)    What important information does the user's request form provide? Why is it so important in the initial investigation? Explain in detail.

(c)    Describe the data analysis method. How does it differ from decision analysis method? Elaborate on the pros and com of each method.

Attempt any two parts of the following : 10x2=20

(a) Information is available from Internal and External sources. Under what circumstances would the analyst depend more heavily on external than internal information? Why?

(b) How does the decision tree analysis help in taking desions. Illustrate with the help of an example.

(c) Describe the concept and procedure used in constructing DFDs. Use an example of Library Management System to describe and draw DFD.

5 Attempt any two parts of the following : 10x2=20

(a)    Many feasibility studies produce disillusions to users and analyst. Do you agree? Why? Explain.

(b)    If you were asked to develop a form control program for your firm, how would you proceed?

How would you control for unauthorized forms?

(c)    Briefly explain the procedure and make up of post-implementation review, can one perform maintenance on a system without a post implementation review? Why?
