1) (a) What is meant by the term ‘Business Policy’? What modifications are taking place in the ‘business policy’ in
the market Driven global environment? (13)

(b) discuss the concept of strategic management? How does it differ from the traditional concept of
management? (12)

2) (a) What is meant by business environment? Bring out the bilateral relationship ranging from business and
environment. (13)

(b) What is ‘SWOT’ analysis? How does it helps in modernization of the business. (12)

3) (a) elaborate the strategic options open to the business unit for its growth? discuss the concept of

(b) Miss, Nital, M.B.A., took over the change as a personnel officer in “Angel’s Attire” – dealing in children’s
readymade garments. She attended a seminar on ‘motivation’ and was very much influenced by the
theories of motivation, particularly Maslows hierarchy of needs and Herzbergs theory. She obtained that the
level of Salaries and wages , in her company was quit satisfactory and certainly on the higher side, within
the industry. (12)
She decided to launch a programme giving due weightage to recognisation career, advancement, greater
personal responsibility, achievement and making work more challenging.
The programme was met with the mixed reaction.
Designers gave a positive response as their personal talent could come in the limelight.
Sales people said, their work already had a challenge.
Cutters, scamsters, pressers and packers were rather aloof, though not hostile to the programme.
The Union Leader openly critisised the programme as a poly of the management to save money and
deceive the employees by false praise.
Many veterans felt this exercise as a sheer waste of time.
As the expected outcomes were not coming, the Management gave Miss Nital, to understand that she
had taken too native a view of human motivation, and asked her to suspend the programme.

(i) Comment upon this case in the situation of different motivational theories.

(ii) Bring out the merits as well as limits of ‘Money’ as an effective motivator.
