b) Discuss how time is represented in temporal databases and compare the

5. a) What do you mean by data fragmentation ? Why is fragmentation a useful
concept in distributed database design? discuss in brief horizontal and vertical
fragmentation (12)

6. Consider the university database that keeps track of learner and their mayor's, transcripts, registration and the University course. Several parts of every course are offered and every part is related to the instructor who is teaching. It also keeps track of the sponsored research projects of faculty and graduate students of the academic departments of the particular college. The database also keeps track of research grants and contracts awarded to the University. A grant is related to 1 principle investigator and to all researchers it support. (20)
(a) Give the EER diagram.
(b) Design object oriented Database schemes by EER —to—00 Mapping.

7.(a) Refer the Q. No.6 to ans the subsequent queries in OQL. (10)
(i) Retrieve the names of all students who completed the course called
"ADBMS".
(ii) Retrieve the names of all departments in the college of Engineering.
(iii) Display the name of the faculty member who is teaching any part of a
course that is offered by the Computer Department, given that the
part is taken by atleast 1 graduate learner who is an research
associates.

(b) elaborate the software components in a client server DDBMS ? Compare the two-tier and three-tier client server architecture. (10)
