1. Explain any THREE of the following in about 50 words each : (3 * 5 = 15)

(a) Write a note on Confessional poetry.

(b) Bring out the significance of the title of the poem The Journey of the Magi.

(c) Trace the main aim of Georgian poets.

(d) Define the meaning of the word absurd in literature.

(e) Give a brief critique of The Invisible Man.

(f) Write a note on how E.M. Forsters A Passage to India revolves around three sets of personal relationships.

2. Answer any THREE of the following in about 150 words each : (3 * 10 = 30)

(a) What is the message in the poem unknown citizen?

(b) Critically analyse the poem Easter 1916.

(c) Give the meaning of the expression Sonnet and give a short critique of the poem The Soldier.

(d) Outline the characteristics that make G.K. Chesterton an essayist.

(e) Explain Samuel Backetts philosophy of life as expressed through Waiting for Godot.

(a) Give an account of the style of T.S. Eliot, as evidenced in his Journey of the Magi.

(b) Explain Hartleys views on life and death.

(c) Write a note on the appropriateness of the title of the play, Look Back in Anger.

(d) Give a brief critique of Heart of the Matter.
