14. A single effect, vertical short tube evaporator
is used to
concentrate syrup from 10% to 40%. Solids at the rate of 2000kg of feed per
hour. The feed enters at 30c and a reduced pressure of 0.33kg/cm2
is maintained in the vapour space. At this pressure the liquor boils at 75c/
Saturated steam at 115c is supplied to steam chest. No sub cooling of the
condensate occurs. Calculate steam requirement and the no of tubes (0.0254m, 16
BWG). If the height of the calandria is 1.5m, the following data are given:
Spacific heat of liquor = 0.946kcal/kgc. Latent heat of steam at 0.33kg/cm2 = 556.5k cal/kg. Boiling point of water at this pressure = 345k. The overall heat transfer coefficient=2150k cal/hm2c.
15. A mixture of benzene and toluene containing 60 mole % benzene is to be separated to yield a product of 95% mole benzene and bottom product of 10 mole % benzene. Feed enters a column at its bubble point. It is proposed to operate the column with reflux ratio 2.5,
Take min. feed rate at 75% of the maximum.
The max. Feed rate is 10000 kg/hr.
Find out height of column, column diameter.

16. General design and drawing considerations of distillation columns of valve tray, sieve tray.
17. What are the design and drawing consideration of packed bed absorption column?
18. What are the different types of adsorption,
Explain with neat
sketch.
(or)
19. Explain in detail about continuous type filtration equipment?
20. What
are the fundamental principle, equation, and general
design of centrifuges?
