1. Define Surveying and leveling.

2. List out the instruments used in chain surveying.

 

3. Differentiate between whole circle and reduced bearings.

7. Differentiate between back sight and fore sight in leveling.

11. Write a detailed on the instruments used for setting out right angles in chain surveying.

12. Explain in detail how the chaining operation can be carried out when the various obstacles met with.

 

13. The following are the observed bearings of the lines of a traverse ABCDE with a compass in a place where local attraction was suspected.

Find the corrected bearings of lines.

14. Explain clearly the points of difference between the prismatic compass and Surveyors compass. Also list out some precautions in using the compass.

 

15. Write in detail about the method of intersection in plane table survey.

16. What is Three point problems? Explain how it is solved by Bessels method.

18. The following consecutive readings were taken with the help of dumpy level.

1.800, 2.500, 4.500, 3.850, 1.500, 1.850, 0.850, 1.l50, 0.550, 0.900, 0.850

The instrument was shifted after the Fourth and seventh readings. The first reading was taken on a staff held on the bench mark of R.L. 30.000m calculate the reduced level of the points and apply arithmetical check.

 

19. Explain in detail, how the contours can be located in direct and indirect methods.
