PART B (5 x 12 = 60)

Answer All the Questions

11. A continuous beam is built in at A and is supported over rollers at B and C. The uniformly distributed load of 30kN/m over length AB and a point load of 240kN acting at a distance of 4.0m from support B on span BC. Analyse the beam by slope deflection method if E = 2 x 105N/mm2 and I = 2 x 109mm4.

(or)

12. Analyse the frame shown in fig 1. by slope deflection method.

13. Analyze a continuous team ABCD by moment distribution method loaded as shown in fig.2.

(or)

14. Analyze a portal frame ABCD loaded as shown in fig.3. by moment distribution method.

15. Analyze a continuous team ABCD of 16.0m long is continuous over three spans, AB:6m BC:5m and CD: 5m and the four supports are at same level and are simply supported. A concentrated load of 30kN is acting at a distance of 2.0m from end A and uniformly distributed load of 20kN/m over the span BC and concentrated load of 60kN acting at a distance of 3.0m from end D. Use three moment equation method.

(or)

16. A beam AB of span l is fixed at both ends and carries a uniformly distributed load of w/m length. Using column analogy method find the fixed end moment.

17. A three hinged circular area 25.0m span and central rise of 5.0m. It is loaded a concentrated load of 10kN as a distance of 7.5m from the left hand house. Find,

(a) Horizondal thrust

(b) Reaction at each end

(c) Bending moment under the load.

(or)

18. A two hunged parabolic area of span l and rise r carries a uniformly distributed load of w per water run over the left hand half of the span. The moment of inertia of the area sub varies as the recaut of the slopes of the rib axis.

(a) Obtain an expression for the horizoudal thrust H.

(b) Calculate the horizontal thrust and bending moment at
5.0m from left end if span = 20m; rise = 4.0m and load
= 20kN/m.

19. A suspeusion cable is of 130.0m horizontal span is supported at the same level. It is subjected to a uniformly distributed load of 30kN/m on horizontal span. If the maximum tension is the cable is limited to 5000kN, calculate the minimum central dip needed.

(or)

20. A suspention cable having supports as the same level has a span of 30.0m and a maximum dip of 3.0m. The cable is loaded with a uniformly distributed load of 10kN/m throught its length. Find

(a) Tension in the cable from first principle.

(b) Find the length of the cable.
