1.               Define armature reaction

2.               List the applications of DC compound motors

3.               Write the emf equation of a transformer

4.               Give some applications of an auto-transformer

5.               Define crawling of an induction motor?

6.               Draw the torque-speed characteristics of a three phase induction motor.

7.               What are the advantages of having rotating field instead of stationary field?

8.               What are damper windings? Why they are used?

9.               Why single phase induction motor is not self starting?

10. List some applications of servomotors?

11. Explain the construction & working of a DC generator

12. Explain with neat sketch the construction and the operation of a 4 point starter.

 

13. With neat circuit explain how to predetermine the parameters of equivalent circuit of a single

phase transformer

14. (a). Derive the EMF equation of a transformer

(b). A 20KVA single phase transformer has 200 turns on the primary & 40 turns on the

secondary.

The primary is connected to 1000V & 50 Hz System. Determine

(i). Secondary voltage on open circuit

(ii). The current in both the windings on full load

15. Explain how the rotating magnetic field is produced in a three phase induction motor.

16. With neat diagram explain the operation of star-delta starter used for three phase induction motor.

 

17. Explain the construction & working of an Alternator.

18. Draw and explain V and inverted V curves of a synchronous motor.

 

19. Explain with neat sketch the operation of a variable reluctance stepper motor.
