Note: Attempt all questions. Figures on R.H.S. indicate marks.

Assume suitable data (giving justification) if found missing.

1.    Answer the following questions in brief (ANY FIVE):    X [10]

(i}~ Sketch the metric and the whitworth screw thread and show the flank angle.

(iiy- Why base tangent method is better than chordal tooth thickness at pitch circle or constant chord

2.    * Answer the following questions. (ANY TWO):    [10]

(0 Perive the formula to get the external (outer) radius of a cylindrical component using two L-" rollers of 15 mm diameter. If error in the measurement of diameter of roller is 0.5 % and in \ the measurement over the roller is 1 %. Determine the total error in measurement of external radius.    J

How will you calibrate gear tooth vernier? Explain with neat sketch.

(ijA'Tiole and shaft assembly has a basic size 50 mm. The assembly has allowance of 0.05 mm and maximum clearance 0.15 mm. The hole tolerance is 1.25 times the shaft tolerance. Determine the limits of both hole and shaft by using hole basis system. OR

Define fit. With neat sketch show shaft basis system to get different types of fit. Why hole basis system is better than the shaft basis system?

(iv) Find the maximum wire size for M30 x 3 screw thread and derive the equation you have used.

3.(i)/tating    the assumptions, derive the formula for determining the maximum force required for [10] forging a strip.

(ii)/A strip of lead with initial dimensions 24 mm x 24 mm * 150 mm is forged between two flat [05] dies to a final size of 6mm x 96 mm * 150 mm. If the coefficient of friction between the job and the dies is 0.08, determine the maximum forging force. The average yield stress of lead in tension is 7 N/mm2.

4.(\rUsing neat sketches explain the design of a single point cutting tool OR drill tool.    [07]

(ii),A cylindrical lead alloy billet of 50 mm diameter and 100 mm length is extruded to a final [08] [diameter of 25 mm by using a direct extrusion process. The average tensile yield stress for the alloy is 12 N/mm2 Estimate (using both approaches-Stress Analysis and Energy Consideration) the maximum force required and the fraction of the total power lost in friction for this operation.
