1. (a) elaborate renewable energy source? explain the advantages and disadvantages of
renewable and conventional energy sources. (6 Marks)
(b) What is Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC)? With the help of a simple
sketch discuss how power can be found using OTEC plants. (6 Marks)

fraction of steam. presume C steam=2.1kJ/kgK. If needed use the extract of the

obtained that the mechanical and brake thermal efficiencies of the engine were 0.7
and 0.2 respectively. The engine with a mean effective pressure of six bars ran at
300 fuel is42, 500 kJ/kg and that the stroke to bore ratio of the engine cylinder is
1.2. obtain the bore and stroke of the engine in cm. (10 marks)

diameter of the driven pulley is 300 mm. obtain the speed of the driven pulley and
the diameter of the driving pulley. (6 marks)

examples.
