2.    Part 'A' has two sections. Section-1 is major essay and section-2 is short essays.

3.    Part 'B' consists of concepts and should be answered on separate sheet.

Answer any one of the following seven questions in about 500 words.

1.    Discuss the factors responsible for the rise of Magadha as a superpower during the Sixth Century BC.

2.    Discuss various theories regarding the origin of the Satavahanas.

3.    Discuss the nature of Iqta system in the Sultanate Period. Did it facilitate the stabilization of the Sultanate or contribute to its collapse in the long run?

4.    Discuss the nature of peasant rights in land during the Mughal period.

5.    What is Subaltern Studies? What is its contribution to the historiography of Colonial India?

6.    What role did Muslims play in the politics of Indian nationalism?

7.    What are the truth claims of history (as a discipline)? How far are those claims

tenable?

Part A - Section 2

Marks 2x15=30


Write two short essays of 200 words each. Each question carries 15 marks.

1.    Critically examine the consequences of Alexanders campaigns in India.

2.    Examine the factors responsible for the decline of the Guptas.

3.    Critically discuss the factors behind the spread of Shramanism.

4.    Can the medieval Indian social system be described as feudal in the Western European sense?

5.    Write a note on the intermediary zamindars under the Mughal state.

6.    Discuss the features of non-agricultural production in Medieval India.

8.    How did Gandhi intervene in the anti-indigo planter agitation in Champaran?

9.    Describe the nature of Vallabhbhai Patels leadership of the Bardoli Satyagraha.
