Answer any Five Questions. All questions carry equal marks

1.    The density of bcc iron is 7900 kgm"3 and its atomic weight is 56. Calculate the side of cubic unit cell and the interatomic spacing.

2.    Derive an expression for binding energy for an ionic crystal and obtain the expression for the Madelung constant.

3.    Describe the electrical conductivity on the basis of Sommerfeld theory Mention the limitations of this theory.

4.    Discuss the Kronig-Penney model of the periodic potential to give rise to allowed and forluidden bands.

5.    Stat and prove (a) Superposition Theorem and (b) Maximum Power Transfer Theorem.

6.    Give theory of constant K-type low pass filter and obtain an expression for its cut-off frequency. Mention the defects of filter.

7.    Give the circuit diagram of a regulated power supply and explain its working.

8.    Explain photovoltaic process in a semiconductor. What is a solar cell? Discuss its working and uses.

9.    Explain the principle of Amptitude Modulation. Describe the collector Modulator circuit.

10.    (a) Add the BCD numbers: 1001 and 0100

(b) Subtract b from 24 by BCD subtraction.
