1. a) What is data processing ? Define the terms with examples (!) record (2) file, b) What are the various methods for data collection and storage ?
2. a) What do you mean by a master file and a transaction file ? Explain, b) What are the various file recovery procedures ?
3. Explain the structure of a COBOL program specifing various DIVISIONS and SECTIONS with a typical example.
4. Discuss the features and rules of
1) REDEFINES
2) RENAMES clauses.
5. Write a COBOL program to sort a set of numbers using BUBBLE SORT.
6. Given a file with following structure

Write a COBOL program to sort the records on the basis of departments in ascending order and then within each department the records are sorted in the descending sequence of basic pay.
7. What is an indexed sequential file and relative file ? Explain how these files are handled in COBOL.
8. Write a COBOL program to find whether a CUSTOMER is present in the account table or not using SEARCH verb.
9. a) What is physical data independence and logical data independence ? b) Discuss the structure of DBMS.
10. Define DDL, DML, Database administrator, relational model.
