Time: 3 Hours Maximum Mario: 100
I a) Sketch tod explain the elements of a twin drill. (10) b) With a neat sketch explain tbe elements of broaching tool (10)
OR
II a) Explain ihe factors considered for ibe selection of grinding wheel. (10) b) Explain the standard wheel marking system with an example. (10)
III a) Denve the velocity relationship is orthogonal cutting. (10) b) Whal are the different types of chips? Explain the conditions favourable for cacti. (10)
OR
IV a) Derive tbe force relationship in orthogonal cutting. (10) b) An experiment was conducted on MS tube of 200mm diameter and 3mm thick.
An orthogonal cut was taken with a cutting speed of 80mm pa minute and
0.l$mm/rcv. feed with a cutting tool having back rake angle of-10*. It was
determined that cutting force-150kg. feed force " 40kg. Net bone power for
cutting was 3hp and chip thickness was 0.25mm. Calculate shear strain and strain
energy per unit volume. (10)
V a) Explain different methods for too! life testing. (10) b) Explain the efTcd of machining parameters on tool life. (10)
OR
VI a) Explain the possible tool wear in a single point cutting tooL (10)
b) If tbe relationship for HSS tools is VT *Ci and for tungsten carbide tools
VT* -Cj and assuming that at a speed of 25m/min, the tool life was 3 hrs in
each case, compare their hves at 32nVmm. (10)
VII a) Explain the six point method of location. (10) b) Expiain tbe principle of vtocaboo and radial location. (10)
OR
VIII a) What are the design considerations common to jigs and fixtures? (10) b) Explain the use of box typeandmdexingjig. (10)
IX a) Discuss the factors that influence the stocfc layout. (10) b) Discuss the methods for reducing cutting force in press working. (10)
OR
X a) Write notes m:
i) stnppcn ii) spring back
b) A bote of 60mm diameter is to be produced in steel plate 2.3tnm thick. The
ultimate shear strength of tbe plate material a 450N/mmJ. If tbe punching force b
to be reduced to halfofthe force using a punch without shear, estimate the amount
of shear on the punch. Take percentage peneBatioo as 40%. (10)
