PHYSICS
Paper Second
( Solid State Physics, Solid State Devices and Electronics)

Time : 3 Hours] [Maximum Marks : 50

Note : Attempt 1 full ques. from every Unit. All ques. carry equal marks.

UNIT-I

1. Write and discuss the expression for the cohesive energy of solids and hence derive the formula for Madelung constant.

OR
(a) Derive an expression for specific heat of solids with the help of Dulong-Petit legal regulations.
(b) Write 3 main differences ranging from Einstein and Debye's theories.

UNIT-II

2. Derive and discuss the different outcomes found by solving schrodinger formula for uniform potential according to sommerfeld's free electron model.

OR

For a ferromagnetic substance discuss coercivity, retentivity and hysteresis loss using B-H curve. Hence prove that for unit quantity of a substance hysteresis loss in every curve is equal to the area of B-H loop.

UNIT-III
3. discuss the characteristic curves of a transistor in common emitter mode giving the necessary electrical circuits.

OR

Write short notes on any 2 of the subsequent :

(i) Zener breakdown
(ii)Light Emitting Diode (LED)
(iii) Depletion layer

UNIT-IV

4. provide the necessary electrical circuit and discuss the working of Bridge rectifier, hence derive an expression for its ripple factor.

OR
What do you mean by filter circuit ? discuss the role of inductors and capacitors in a filter circuit.

UNIT-V

5. Write short notes on any 2 of the subsequent :
(i) Multiprogramming systems
(ii)Word processing package
(iii)M. S. Word
OR

Write a flowchart and a C-programme for solving a simultaneous formula.
