Instructions to Candidates:

1.    The question paper is divided in two sections.

2.    There are sections A & B. Section A contains 6 questions out of which the candidate is required to attempt any 4 questions. Section B contains short case study/application based 1 question which is compulsory.

3.    All questions are carrying equal marks.

Section - A

1.    Explain the concept of Strategic Human Resource Management. What is the importance of Strategic Human Resource Management? Explain the points of difference between Strategic Human Resource Management & traditional Human Resource Management.    (4+4+6)

2.    Strategic Human Resource Management is largely about integration of strategic fit between HR strategy and business strategy Do you agree? Differentiate between external fit and internal fit. Give examples of any organizations that have achieved a fit between a business strategy and HR strategy. Describe and evaluate the type of fit that exist in each of these organizations. (2+4+4+4)

3.    Explain the concept of Human Resource Cost? What are the constituents that need to be considered while calculating the HR cost?    (4+10)

4.    Should training activities be strategically aligned? If yes How? What are the benefits of strategic linkage of training activities? Explain the business strategy -training linkage with respect to the business strategy typology given by Miles and Snow.    (4+4+6)

5.    Describe the general guide line for the development of performance management system, Whnt : rlion must be taken by the organization at each step? (7+7)

7. Assume that you are external consultant hired by a firm that is planning a restructuring exercise. After an extensive study of the firm, you discovers that it continues to be traditional in its approach to managing human resources. You have taken an appointment with the director of the firm tn discuss your findings and to suggest changes. Structure your discussion around the following aspects.

a)    The need to view human resources as asset and a source of competitive advantage

b)    The need to move towards a strategic perspective of HR function,

c)    Major HR issues during and after the restructuring.
