Instructions to Candidates:

Attempt overall Five Questions selecting one question from each unit. All questions carry equal marks. (Schematic diagrams must be shown wherever necessary. Any data you feel missing may suitably be assumed and stated clearly. Units of quantities used/calculated must be stated clearly.)

Unit -1

1.    Determine the normal force (N) and tangential force (F) on the tool face, if the rake angle (a) is 15, clip - thickness ratio is 0.383 and undeformed

3.    A 50 mm diameter bar of steel was turned at 284 r.p.m. and tool failure occurred in 10 min. The speed was changed to 232 r.p.m. and tool failure occured in 60 min.

Assuming that a tool-life cutting speed relationship exists, what cutting speed should be used to obtain a 40 min. tool life?    (16)

Explain Attrition, Abrasion, Diffusion wear of tool wear, and list the factors thai affects machinability of any material.    (16) 0
