1. (a) What is sampling theorem? Explain its signi
ficance in communication engineering and also prove it.
(b) Explain different pulse modulation methods used in communication engineering.
2. (a) Describe at least one method of generation of AM
signal. Also write its advantages and drawbacks.
(b] Explain DM and ADM. Also compare with each other.
3. (a) Describe the basic principle of PSK, QPSK and
8-PSK. Also compare their relative merits and demerits.
(b) What is MSK? Explain the process of MSK with neat diagram.
4. (a) Explain the public switch- telephone network
(Electronic Exchange).
(b) Describe and calculate the primary and secondary line constant of transmission line.
5. (a) Compare the connectors and splicers. Also
explain at least two types of connectors used in
optical fiber.
(b) Write the advantages, disadvantages and applications of optical fiber communication.
6. (a) State and prove the Shannons channel capacity
theorem.
(,b) The generator polynomial of a (7, 4) cyclic code is g(x) = l+x+x2. Find all the code words of this code.
7. A source is transmitting six messages with probability 0-30, 0-25, 0-15, 0-12, 0-10 and 0-08 respectively.
(z) Find the binary Huffman code.
(ii) Determine its average weird length, efficiency and redundancy.
8. Write short notes on any two:
(i) Cyclic code
(ii) ISI and Eye diagram
(iii) Frequency division multiplexing
(iv) Dispersion in optical fiber.
