14. learn the passage provided beneath and do the activity that follows :
Research on solar energy is as sophisticated and intensive in India as anywhere else in the world. For ten months of the
year, 6 to 8 hours a day, much of India receives high intensity, fairly uniform sunshine. The Indian Government
has therefore provided priority to 6 projects in the development of solar energy. The most important of these is the
solaren3rgised water pump. The other 5 are solar power stations, solar distillation and desalination plants, solar airconditioning
units, solar water heaters, solar agricultural dryers
The solar water pump, which will have a capacity of ranging from 2 and 5 horsepower, is being developed principally
for use in rural areas. Prototypes of such a pump are now being tested. 1 French-designed model is capable of
pumping 200 gallons of water per hour form a depth of 30 metes. A solar energised pump would have no recurring
power expenses, and should last more and its transmission to remote villages, a water pump may become economically
feasible for many parts of the country.
Say whether the subsequent statements are actual or False : 1*6
(a) Much of India gets fairly uniform sunshine for the whole year.
(b) The Indian Government has provided priority to 6 projects in the development of solar-energised water pumps.
(c) The solar water pump is being developed for use in rural areas.
(d) A solar-energised pump would not have any recurring expenses.
(e) A solar-energised pump will last for centuries.
(f) Conventional generation of electricity is cheaper to a solar-energised pump.
15. learn the passage provided beneath and ans the ques. that follow.
Atoms are of various sizes, But all of them are very small---much too small to be seen. Indeed, they are so small that
we cannot compare them with anything that familiar t us. A million atoms would fit into the full stop at the lend of a
sentence. There are 250 million atoms in a steel pin 1 inch long.
Most of the atoms stay as they are all the time. A few types of atom, however, are always changing. Quite suddenly,
one of these atoms will throw out a small piece, or particle, form its center, or nucleus. As a result, it becomes a
various type of atom, a little smaller than before. Atoms which naturally behave in this way are called radioactive,
and their change into smaller atoms is called decay.
