II B.E. (IV SEMESTER) (BACK) EXAMINATION, 2009
(New Four Year Semester Scheme)
[Branch: Electrical Engineering]
Paper I ELECTRONICS - II
Time Allowed : Three Hours Maximum Marks 80
(1) No supplementary answer-book will be given to any candidate. Hence the candidates should write the answer precisely in the Main answer-book only.
(2) All the parts of one question should be answered at one place in the answer-book. One complete question should not be answered at different places in the answer-book.

Attempt any five questions. All questions carry equal marks.
1. (a) Draw small signal equivalent circuit for an emitter
follower stage at high frequencies and explain. 8
State the relationship amongst them. Also explain gain bandwidth product. 8
2. (a) Draw the circuit of a voltage shunt feedback
amplifier. Explain.
What is stability criterion? 8
(>) What is relationship between transfer gain with feedback AF and without feedback A. Also define negative and positive feedback. 8
3. (a) Sketch the circuit of a Wein bridge oscillator.
What determines the frequency of oscillations? Also state whether the oscillation takes place if bridge is balanced. 12
(b) Explain bistable multivibrator. 4
4. (a) Parameters of a crystal oscillator equivalent
circuit are L5=0-8 H, C5=8 pF, Rs5 kQ and CP-1-0 pF. Determine resonance frequencies fs
and fP. 8
(b) Give the Barkhausen conditions required in order for sinusoidal oscillations to be sustained. 8
5. (a) Explain IC555 Timer and its applications.
(ft) Explain operational amplifier in non-inverting mode with schematic design. 8
8
6. (a) Explain how Harmonic distortion can be com
puted. 6
(b) Derive an expression for output power of a class A large signal amplifier in terms of Vmax, Vmin,
max> -min-
7. (a) List the factors why an unregulated supply is not
good enough for some applications. 6
(b) Draw a simplified circuit diagram of a regulated power supply. What type of feedback is employed by this regulator? Explain. 10
8. Write short notes (any two):
(z) Differential DC Amplifier
(ii) Monolithic Regulator
(Hi) Transformer Coupled Audio Power Amplifier.
