2. (a) (i) “In direct contrast to German Philosophy which descends from heaven to earth, here we ascend from earth to heaven.” Comment on this statement in the light of Marx’s views on the social nature of consciousness as expressed in The German Ideology.

(ii) Why, according to John Stuart Mill, is the social relationship ranging from the 2 sexes, “wrong in itself, and now 1 of the chief hindrances to human improvement”? discuss.

(b) (i) “ The nineteenth century English novel, for all its formal realism, very often ends in an unreal note.” explain.

3. (a) explain The Mill on the Floss as a novel about childhood in the nineteenth century England.
