Q. 4. learn the passage provided beneath and ans the ques. that follow: 10

The words ‘rich’ and ‘poor’ in a few cases refer to the pos¬session of qualities and in a few cases to the possession of material wealth. In common parlance, however, the use of the words ‘rich’ and ‘poor’ implies possession of material wealth and the relative non-possession thereof. As a rule when we say ‘the rich’ we mean the people or families with a net income of, say, at lowest sixty or seventy thousand rupees a year. When we say ‘poor’, we mean families with an income of 5 hundred rupees a month or less. In ranging from ‘rich’ and ‘poor’ we place the lower or higher middle class families.

Very rich nations or governments are a danger to the rest of the world. The U.S.A. had waged a war in Vietnam, a tiny country, which had’cost the U.S.A. so much money that with this sum alone poverty could have been abolished from the whole of Asia. If war could be abolished from the world for ever, the rich nations of the world could help raise the income and purchasing power of poor families all over the world within a decade and a half. Equality of income for every family is not possible nor is perhaps necessary. We can have a few dozen or a few hundred favulously rich families in every country. But we can make every family all over the globe a well-to-do-family, well-fed, well-clothed, well-housed and well-provided with many of the comforts and luxuries which modern science and technology have made available. Poverty can be effected from the face of the earth.
