1. (a) Why does a computer use binary numbers for its internal processing? (5 marks)
(b) Explain the internal architecture of 8086 microprocessor with a neat
block diagram (10 marks)

2. (a) Describe the sequence of signals that occurs on the address bus, the control
bus and data bus when a simple microcomputer fetches an instruction. (8 marks)
(b) How the physical address of a data byte in 8086 is computed? discuss with
an example. (7 marks)

3. (a) Explain with examples, how based and indexed addressing modes are used
to access data in 8086 programs. (8 marks)
(b) Write a delay loop which produces a delay of 500µS on an 8086 with a five MHz clock. (7 marks)
