2. Explain the mode set register of 8279.
3. Explain the principle of operation of a flash ADC.
4. Explain why strain gauges are usually connected in a bridge configuration.
5. What is the use of a Modem.
6. What are the various kinds of devices that can be connected on the GPIB?
7. Write a note on virtual 8086 mode of 80386.
8. Compare Risc and Cisc processors?
9. What are the uses of delay routines?
(6 X two = 12 marks)

Part B

ans any 3 ques..

10. Explain the interfacing of a keyboard and microprocessor.
11. Explain with figures the principle of operation of a dual slope ADC.
12. Explain how asynchronous serial data can be sent from a port line using a software routine.
13. What is the concept of virtual memory?
14. Explain with diagrams the interfacing of stepper motor to a microprocessor.
(3 X five = 15 marks)

Part C

ans all ques..

15. (a) Design a microprocessor based stop watch using 8253 and 8255. The stop watch counts up to seconds in steps of 10 ms and displays the time on a 4-digit seven-segment multiplexed display. Draw the needed hardware and write an ALP to implement the scheme.
Or
(b) discuss with diagrams the principle of LAN. elaborate the factors to be considered in the design of a LAN?
16. (a) Draw and discuss a circuit for interfacing and ADC with 8086.
Or
(b)Explain the RS232 C Serial data standard and IEEE 488 GPIB standard.
17. (a) discuss with necessary diagrams a microprocessor based control of firing circuit of thyristors.
Or
(b) Draw and discuss the architecture of any 1 of the Risc processors.
18. (a) Draw a hardware circuit for interfacing an electrical motor to 8086 so as to measure its speed and display the identical. Write an assembly language program for the system.
Or
(b) Draw a interface circuit for driving a stepper motor using 8086. Write an assembly language program for running the motor through 15 steps in clockwise direction.
