Instructions to Candidates

   Answer BOTH the questions

   Design Data Handbook is permitted

   Additional data required may be appropriately assumed

   Assumptions made must be clearly mentioned

1. Draw involute tooth profile for a pair of spur gears, showing at least 2 teeth on each gear. Gears have the following specifications

Tooth profile    : 20o full depth

No. of teeth on pinion    : 20

Gear ratio    : 1.2

Module    : 10 mm    15

2. Design the connecting rod for a petrol engine having the following specification Indicated power at 1600 rpm = 25 kW Stroke length    = 220 mm

Speed    = 1600 rpm

Compression ration    = 8

Mean effective pressure    = 1.45 MPa

maximum explosion pressure = 2.45 MPa

Draw two views of the connecting rod and show two views of the connecting rod

OR

Design a centrifugal pump impeller to lift 90 liters/s of water with an effective head of 15m. Motor speed is 1440 rpm and ratio of impeller diameters is 0.5 . What type of vane is recommended and why ? Draw two views of the impeller.    35
