Note : Answer all questions without omitting any Section.
SECTION - A
1. Annotate four of the following choosing two from poetry and two from
drama : (4x5=20)
a) If this be error, and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.
b) Thou art slabe to fate, chance, kings and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war and sickness dwell,
c) Let the Worlds riches, which dispersed lie,
Contract into a span.
d) But oh ! what art can teach,
What human voice can reach The sacred organs praise ?
e) Its all the drink, and things preying on his mind; hes not a bad man really.
f) Now, now. Whats the good of this ? Keep a civil tongue, and itll be the better for all of us.
g) Sure ? of course Im sure. A crimson silk purse It was all the money I had.
h) You are not making your case any better by violence. How do you suppose we could get on if everybody behaved like you ?

2. Answer two of the following in about a page and a half each : (2x10=20)
a) How does Shakespeare immortalise friendship in his Shall I compare Thee ?
b) The Good Morrow is a love poem with a difference. Substantiate the statement.
c) How does the poet reconcile himself to the loss of his only talent ?
d) Justify the title, A song for St. Cecilias Day, 1687 from your reading of Dryden.

3. Answer two of the following in about a page and a half each : (2x10=20)
a) What picture of the English Society do we have in The Silver Box ?
b) Sketch the character of Mrs. Jones.
c) The contribution of the Barthwicks is more than Jacks for the latters misdeeds. Do you agree ? Give reasons.
d) Write short notes on :
i) The Unknown Lady ii) Livens

a) What picture of London life does Dickens present in the novel ?

Write short notes on two of the following :
i) Fagin, the representative of Jews
ii) Olivers relation to monks

b) Compare and contrast Mr. Bennet and Mrs. Bennet.
OR
Critically comment on the circumstances that led to the elopement of Lydia in Pride and Prejudice.
5. How according to Bacon is travel an education by itself ? (1x10=10)
OR
It is a comment on men and morals. Elucidate the statement from your reading of Goldsmiths National Prejudices.
