Group A (25 Marks)

 

Answer any three questions (Question 1 is compulsory)

 

Q.1. Define density specific volume, specific weight, specific gravity, coefficient of dynamic viscosity & kinematic viscosity with respect to a fluid. (05)

Q.2. Explain the types of fluids. (10)

Q.3. Explain the construction and working principle of a vane pump (10)

Q.4. Discuss the construction and working of pelton turbine (10)

Q.5. Prove that the centre of pressure of a inclined flat surface lie below the center of

gravity. (10)

Group B (25 Marks)

 

Answer any three questions (Questions 6 is compulsory)

Q.6. An isosceles triangle of base 3m and altitude 6m is immersed vertically in water with its axis of symmetry horizontal as shown in fig. If the head of water on its axis in 9m. Calculate the center of pressure. (5)

Q.9. A turbine develop 10000kw under a head of 25 meters at 135 r.p.m. . What is the specific speed? What would be its normal speed and output under a head of 20 meters? (10)

Q.10. A centrifugal pump deliver 120 liter fo water per second against a head of 85m at 9000 r.p.m. Find the specified speed of the pump. What type of impeller would you select for the pump? (10)
