Group A (25 Marks)

Answer any three questions (Question 1 is compulsory)

(10)

(5)

Q.1: Explain the role of automobile manufacturing industry in Indian economy development?

Q.2: Explain manufacturing processes functions in automobile manufacturing systems?

(10)

Q.3: Give the function of master cylinder in the braking system. Why bleeding of brakes are necessary? List common braking problems and the corrective measures. How does the hand brake function?

(10)

Q.4: Explain laser beam machining. What is electron beam machining?

(10)

Q.5: Explain the procedure of quality control in automobile manufacturing system?

Group B (25 Marks)

Answer any three questions (Questions 6 is compulsory)

(5)

Q.6: Calculate the brake efficiency of a car if it is slopped in a distance of 80 metres from a speed of 110 km/hr.

(10)

(10)

Q.7: The gear ratios of a 3 speed gear box are 3.5, 2.1 and 1 and the constant ratio of differential is 6.0. Calculate the speed of car in each gear if the engine rpm is 3000 and the rear wheel diameter is 60 cm?

Q.8: A plate clutch has three discs on the driving shaft and two discs on the driven shaft providing four pairs of contact surfaces. The outside diameter of the contact surface is 240 mm and inside diameter 120 mm. Assume uniform pressure and = 0.3. Find the total spring load pressing the plates together to transmit 25 kw at 1575 rpm. If there are 6 springs each of stiffness 13 KN/m and each of the contact surfaces worn by 1.25 mm, find the maximum horse that can be transmitted.

(10)

Q.9: State different kinds of gears used in automobiles manufacturing systems?

(10)

Q.10: Find the time required for shaping a block of 30 cm x 15 cm size in two cuts. Assume feed as 0.6 mm/stroke and cutting speed as 14 m/min.
