Answer any three questions (Question 1 is compulsory)

 

Q.1 Briefly explain the term the foundation. Enumerate the various types of building foundation. ( 5 )

Q.2 Describe the well components & their functions. (10)

Q.3 Define natural ventilation. Write the different types of building where it should not be used. What are factor effects an natural ventilation. (10)

Q.6 Draw a neat sketch of cylindrical shell. (5)

Q.7 Calculate by using Haleys formula for the ultimate load carrying capacity of R.C.C pile . Given the following data. (10)

Section of pile = 50cm50cm

Length of pile = 15m.

Weight of concrete = 2.4 t/m2

Weight of falling mass = 5 tonnes

Height of free fall = 1m.

Average penetration under last 10 blows =5 tara.

Efficiency of hammer = 100%

Coefficient of hammer = 0.5

Total elastic compression= 30mm

Q.9 A studio has dimentions as 10m 7m 5m. The ceiling of studio is provided with acoustical tiles having absorption coefficient of 0.40 .Curtains in have folds are provided on one of the short walls. The absorption power of other surfaces of the studio may be taken as 8.5m2 sabins. (10)

It is required to provide revolving panels in the studio in order to vary reverberation time form 3.75 to 1 second. Work out the following for the studio.

(i)                 Extra absorption units for required or given times of reverberation.

(ii)               Coefficient of absorption material on the faces of revolving panel.

(iii)             Area of wall panel.

Q.10 Describe briefly the fire resistant construction of structural elements in view of fire safety jets in building. (10)
