1 ( a ) What arc the sub-structures of a bridge? Mention the functions of each of them.    6

( c ) How will you calculate the economic span of a bridge?    4

1    ( a ) Classify the bridges in different ways.    6 ( b ) What arc the various stages of investigation for important bridges ?    6 ( c ) Define a bearing and mention the purpose of providing bearing in a bridge.    4

2    ( a ) A bridge has a linear water way of 200m, constructed across a stream whose natural linear 8

water way is 250m. It (he average flood discharge is 1500 m3/sec. and average flood depth is 5tn. Calculate the afflux under the bridge.

( b ) What are the requirements of an ideal bridge? Discuss them.    8
