3. Read the subsequent passage carefully and ans the ques. that follow :
The history of civilization indicates how man always has to select ranging from making the right and wrong use of the discoveries of science. This has never been more actual than in our own age. In a brief period, amazing discoveries have been made and applied to practical purposes. It has become a platitude to say we are residing in an age of revolution.
It would be ungrateful not to recognise how immense are the boons which science has provided to mankind. It has brought within the reach of multitudes the benefits and advantages which only a short time ago were the privilege of the few. It has shown how malnutrition, hunger and disease can be overcome. It has not only lengthened life but it has deepened its quality. Fields of knowledge, experience and recreation open in the past only to a few have been thrown open to millions. Through the work of science the ordinary man today has been provided the opportunity of a longer and fuller life than was ever possible to his grandparents. Most thankfully we must acknowledge all that science has done and is doing for the welfare of our race.

Experience is the best teacher. Experience does not teach every thing. It does not teach history, geography, chemistry. What it teaches is the art of residing. No 1 can teach this subject as well as experience. She is a strict teacher. She charges very high fees. She punishes faults very severely, but she teaches her lessons thoroughly. We should learn much from other people’s experience but as a rule we prefer to learn from our own. You warn a child against playing with fire, but the child does not believe you till he burns his fingers. He learns from his own experience.
