Part A

I, Answer any three questions out of five, each carrying 2 marks :

1    Define electronics.

2    Explain a tunnel diode with necessary diagram,

3    Which are the different types of biasing a PN junction ?

4    Define doping. What is its significance ?

5    What are majority and minority carriers in a semiconductor.

II. Answer any three questions out of five, each carrying 4 marks

1    Explain the CE configuration of a BJT with its input and output characteristics.

2    Write notes on LED, with its applications.

3    Define semiconductors. Explain intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors with examples,

4r Define the JFET parameters and give the relation between them.

5 What is enhancement MOSFET ? Draw and explain the drain and transfer characteristics of enhancement MOSFET.

(3 x 4 = 12 marks)

III. Answer any one question out of two, carrying 7 marks :

1    Explain the different configurations of BJT with necessary diagrams and compare their performance.

2    Explain a UJT with its structure, symbol, device characteristics and applications.

I. Answer any three questions our of 5 each carrying 2 marks :

1    Define ripple factor. -

2    Differentiate halfivave and full wave rectifier.

3    What is the Barkhausen criteria for osillators ?

4    Draw the hybrid equivalent circuit of a CE amplifier.

5    Draw the circuit of an astable multivibrator and its output waveform.
