I.

a) Enumerate and discuss the general characteristics of an amplifier.

b) What are the methods of FET biasing? discuss any 1 method.

c) What are cascade and compound amplifiers? discuss. provide examples.

d) Draw high frequency equivalent circuit of CS FET amplifier. Derive an expression for
voltage gain.

e) Draw CMOS logic inverter and discuss.

f) What is MESFET? discuss its construction.

g) What are differential amplifiers? Sketch the kinds of differential amplifier.

h) Give an account on GaAs amplifier.

II. (a)

i. Explain in detail the classification of amplifiers.(8 marks)

ii. Draw the low frequency h-parameter model of CE-BJT amplifier. Derive the equations for all the parameters. (7 marks)

i. Explain the need for Boot strapping.(8 marks)

ii. Draw the equivalent circuit of CS-FET amplifier and discuss. Derive the formula for all the parameters.(7 marks)

III.

a) Explain the hybrid p model of BJT in CE configuration. A BJT has hie = five KO and hfe = 150 at IC=1Ma. With fT =100 MHz and Cbc = 12 PF. Determine gm,rb’e,rbb’ and cb’e at room temperature and a collector current of one m’A. Draw the approximate small signal high frequency model of the BJT showing numerical values. (15 Marks)
