Part A

1. Define work function of a metal.

2. What is secondary emission? elaborate its merits?

3. What are the kinds of resistors? provide 1 example for every of them.

4. Bring out the differences in the reverse bias characteristics of an ordinary junction diode and zener diode. Why do the differences exist?

5. How is load line helpful in analyzing amplifier?

6. Which of the 3 configurations of a BJT amplifier provides the highest input impedance? provide reasons.

7. Why is transformer utility factor of half wave rectifier and center tapped full wave rectifier lesse rthan bridge kind rectifier?

8. Design a simple zener regulator for the subsequent specifications; 10 V < V < 16 V and V reg = 9.1 V at a load current of 20 Ma.

1. Draw the block diagram of a general purpose CRO and discuss the importance of every block.

1. Prove that self bias is the best bias, by way of derivations.

2. What is Q-point? How does it help in determining the stability of an amplifier? Why is Q point always preferred to be chosen as the midpoint of the load line?

1. Define and compare the subsequent for a HWR and center tapped FWR: Ripple factor, PIV, efficiency and rectification factor.

2. Draw the circuit diagram of a series voltage regulator and discuss its operation. Why and how is short circuit protection included in this?
