b>Attempt any 2 of the following:
¡)Explain wind energy with neat sketch.
¡¡)State the necessity of multistaging and intercooling.
¡¡¡)Write the advantages of turbojet engine.
2) Attempt any 3 of the following:
a> A tank of 2.2m3 capacity contains air at 260'C and 0.1 MPa. a few air goes out of the tank without changing the temperature until the pressure becomes five KPa. Determine the mass of air left in tank.
b>Distinguish ranging from water tube boiler and fire tube boiler.
c>Write the advantages and disadvantages of solar energy.
d>Draw diagram of hydro-electric power plant and tag the components.
3)Attempt any 3 of the following:
a>discuss with neat sketch the working of reaction turbine.
b>Draw p-v diagram of Brayton cycle used in gas turbine and discuss thermodynamic processes involved in it.
c>compute heat loss in KJ/hr or watts from a 20 mm diameter opening electric furnace, if it is maintained at a temperature of 1000'C. presume that the opening acts as a black body and that ambient air is at 27'C.
d>describe reflectivity,absorptivity,transmissivity,and emissivity.
4) Attempt any 2 of the following:
a>discuss diesel cycle with thermodynamic processes on P-V and T-S diagram.
b>elaborate the requirements of good fuel ? compute the higher calorific value of a fuel which contains carbon=80% , oxygen=10% , hydrogen=6% , sulphur=2% , and ash=2%.
c>Steam at eight bar and 0.85 dry in throttled to a pressure one bar. Using steam tables, obtain the final quality of steam. Also compute the change of entropy during the process.
5) Attempt any 3 of the following:
a>State the different factors to be considered for the site selection of a power station.
b>The inner wall of a thick tube made of material having thermal conductivity of 0.58 w/m'C is at 70'C. The temperature at outer wall of the tube is 100'C. compute the heat flow rate per metre length of this tube of inner diameter two cm and outer diameter four cm.
c>State and discuss zeroth legal regulations of thermodynamics.
d>Write the advantages and applications of turbo prop engine.
