Q.1. (a) Explain classifications of petroleum fuels. (10)

(b) Explain with a diagram

(i) Catalytic Cracking (ii) Thermal Cracking (10)

Q-2. Write Short note on: (20)

(i) Calorific value

(ii) Fire Point

(iii) Flash point

(iv) Viscocity

(v) Pour Point

Q.3. (a) Give and explain the desirable properties of Diesel fuel. What is cetane number, what does it indicate and what happens when its value becomes too high or too low. (10)

(b) Name and give benefits of adding various additives to Petrol and Diesel fuels. (10)

Q-4. (a) Explain the stages of combustion process in a Spark Ignition engine with p -diagram. (10)

(b) What is diesel Knock. Give its relation with cetane number. What is ignition delay and on what factors does it depend. (10)

Q-5. (a) Give the various properties of compressed natural gas (CNG). Compare it with the properties of petrol. Why LNG is not suitable for use in automobiles. (10)

(b) Give the drawbacks for the use of alcohol in SI and CI (Spark ignition and Compressed ignition) engines. Give the properties of hydrogen fuel and the drawbacks for using it as fuel. (10)
