The Tashukara Lacquerware Company of Kyoto, Japan was one of the many hundreds of small handicraft shops making lacquerware for the daily table use of Japanese people when the American army officers started using them as the part of the souvenirs. Young Mr. Tashukara, who has just taken the old family business in 2009, saw there is an opportunity but soon found that traditional handicraft methods & tools were gone out dated & slow hence needing new technologies & strategies to compete with the rival firms. He introduced new ways of simple methods of manufacturing of machine-coated, polishing & inspection into what had been a purely handicraft. But soon his family members were not in favor of introducing new techniques as they said that these techniques will destroy the traditional taste of the Lacquerware. More over they were under threat that these kind of modern techniques will snatch the their category of Handicrafts as all the products are getting manufactured on machines now.

Questions:

1. What were the causes for the young Tashukara to introduce the new tools in his traditional business?

2. What kind of environmental variables became obstacles for Tashukara to develop his business? Would those decisions hamper his family business anyway?
