1. Write short notes on any five of the following, identifying the authors and mentioning the languages in which they were originally written, taking at least two from each group (Answer in English or Bangla). [4X5]

Group A: Meghdutam, Yayati, Anandamath, Aag ka Darya, Jaisa ka Taisa, Silappadikaram, Gorkhe Jeep, Sabita Bhavi in Goa.

Group B: The Frogs, Anthony and Cleopatra, The Golden Ass, Fifty Shades of Grey, Anmt Karenina, A Dolls House, Suzanne, Siddhartha.

c2: How different is journalism from literature? Do you think literary texts are essentially different from newspaper reports, features and commentaries? Or, are there overlaps that make the study of newspapers and other periodicals productive and exciting for the student of literature? (This question must be answered in English) [20]

3<fa) One can learn as much about human relationships, society and culture from the comic book or graphic novel as one can from a study of a classicdo you agree? Discuss with examples.

a)    Literary studies in India have a unique dynamics and have the potential to be particularly exciting in India because of the essentially multilingual nature of India do you agree? Discuss.

b)    What are the hallmarks of a good translation? What kind of challenges does one face in translating a literary work from one language into another? Discuss with suitable examples.
