In the contemporary world, the meaning of pen (writing) is media and the sword refers to the arms and ammunitions, which the political leaders use to prove themselves as superpowers. The media can present truth to the people and make them aware. The writers and philosophers have the power to motivate people to think which in turn initiates revolutions leading to positive dramatic results. The classic example is of the National Song Vande Mataram, which became the slogan for Indias struggle for freedom against the British rule. It stirred up the entire nation to unitedly fight against the British under Mahatma Gandhis peaceful and non-violent mass-movement which won India her freedom.

No war can have such an impact. Pen is mightier than sword.

The Pen Warriers like Shakespeare, Leo Tolstoy, Kalidas and Tulsidas command more respect than sword. Warriors like Alexander, Napoleon, Hitler or Aurangzeb. The sword caters to the selfish motives of ruthless rulers, which destroys peace and harmony. The power of pen brings peace and justice to the world.
